The American Dancing With The Stars spin-off show, starring Robert Irwin as the host, is already getting rave reviews.

The first episode of The Next Pro just premiered in the US, and Aussie audiences will get to see it on Wednesday on Disney+.

It’s a competition to find a new professional performer to join the ranks of the American version of Dancing With the Stars.

Fresh off the back of winning last year’s dancing contest, Robert was chosen to host the program and guide the performers through the gruelling tournament.

People who got a sneak peek at the show ahead of Tuesday’s premiere said it’s a fun, fresh revamp of the long-running American reality series.

“The celebrity-free format is surprisingly refreshing and addictive,” wrote Laughing Place reviewer Alex Reif.

“As host, fans not only get more of what they love about [Robert], but he also gets to continue that supportive evolution that started when he was a contestant himself.”

Fellow reviewer Marshal Knight, from Reality Blurred, said The Next Pro was the best type of spin-off from Dancing With The Stars.

“It has taken 21 years and two previous attempts, but ABC has finally found a way to make the ballroom dancing shine outside of its familiar format,” they said.

“The show is much more intimate than I expected, each week taking place in a small studio with only the judges on stage to offer constructive criticism; there’s no live band and no audience cheers to distract from the dancing.”

Viewers have also called Robert “perfect” as the host and have demanded future episodes show more of him.

Robert Irwin reveals why he’s ‘jealous’ of The Next Pro contestants

Robert will likely be much more relaxed hosting The Next Pro compared to when he was competing on Dancing With The Stars last year.

While he’s not forced to learn new routines every week, he said it’s not as much fun in his new role.

“It’s pretty crazy being on the other side, after being there competing and now hosting…there’s a little bit of jealousy there,” he told The Next Pro guest judge Derek Hough, via Extra TV.

“I want to be in there, I want to be dancing,”

But he added to TV Insider that it’s been fascinating seeing all the talent in the performers.

“I didn’t realise how cutthroat this world of dancing and ballroom and everything is,” he said.

“The whole time I was watching this, going, ‘Thank goodness I was part of Dancing With the Stars and not being a contestant on The Next Pro because no way I could’ve done that. Wow.'”

What is The Next Pro about?

The Next Pro features 12 up-and-coming dancers who are vying to star on the 35th season of Dancing With The Stars.

That TV show sees celebrities paired up with professional dancers, many of whom never get their moment in the spotlight.

Mark Ballas, who has won the Mirrorball Trophy three times, will be one of the judges on The Next Pro, as well as his mum, Shirley Ballas, who is known as the ‘Queen of Latin’.

The show will first air on America’s ABC network on Mondays, before episodes drop on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.
