The former 9News Sydney weather presenter is now hosting a new podcast, Face to Face, for industry publication The Australian Conveyancer.

In the latest episode, released on Wednesday, the 50-year-old journalist sat down with NSW Opposition Leader and fellow former Nine presenter Kellie Sloane for a wide-ranging discussion on housing affordability, infrastructure, business confidence and the state’s economic outlook.

“People need hope. Economic hope is really important,” Sloane told Sherlock.

“So when you’re buying a property, whether it’s your first or whether you’re moving up the ladder and buying your next property, you want to know that interest rates aren’t going to go up too high, that there’s enough money in the bank, and you’re hoping that your wages are going to grow enough to cover your interest repayments.

“And I would argue that having an economy that is productive is going to be really important. And that is where the coalition government has its strength.”

Sherlock then asked whether Sloane believed the NSW Labor government, led by Premier Chris Minns, was “getting it right” when it came to housing affordability and the cost-of-living crisis.

“I would argue, and you’re probably not surprised to learn that I would say no, they’re not getting it right,” Sloane replied.

“However, they appear to be trying- I’ll give them that. We’ve tried to be bipartisan in terms of working with the government to accelerate planning approvals and complex planning processes in this state. So we are willing to work with the Government on that.

“But what we are finding in this state is a NSW Labor government that has talked a big game on housing and hasn’t delivered.”

Despite both women having previously worked together at Nine, the subject of their former employer was notably absent from the 30-minute conversation.

Sloane, who joined Nine in 1997, left the network in 2010 during a round of staff cuts before going on to become chief executive of Life Education.

She entered state politics in 2023 after being elected the Liberal Member for Vaucluse and became Leader of the NSW Liberal Party and Opposition Leader in November.

Sherlock, meanwhile, joined Nine in 2007 but was made redundant in November as part of a broader cost-cutting program across Nine’s television and streaming operations.

The journalist, who became internationally recognised following the viral 2017 “JacketGate” incident, was just three weeks shy of her 50th birthday when she lost her job.

She has since launched Federal Court action against Nine, seeking over $400,000 in compensation and damages, claiming she was “aged out” of the company and “disadvantaged” due to her gender.

Speaking to Stellar’s ‘Something to Talk About’ podcast, Sherlock said: “I always joked that Channel Nine wouldn’t have a 50-year-old weather presenter. Who knew I was being prophetic in that?”

When asked directly whether she believed age was a factor, Sherlock did not hesitate.

“100 per cent. Yes, I honestly do,” she said.

Nine has denied the allegations, maintaining Sherlock’s role was made redundant as part of a wider organisational restructure rather than because of her age.

“Nine does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of age or any other factor,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle in March.

“We strongly reject any suggestion that this influences any decision to remove a role that is no longer required in our business.

“The dedicated role of the 6pm weather presenter for 9News Sydney was made redundant in November 2025.

“Since then, a number of different reporters and presenters have presented the 6pm weather in addition to filling other roles across the network.”

The network has also pointed to several women aged over 50 who remain in prominent on-air roles, including Getaway presenters Catriona Rowntree, 54, and Livinia Nixon, 51, as well as A Current Affair host Deborah Knight, 53.

The trial is expected to drag on into late October.
