Channel 9 Is In Full Panic After Scott Cam Was Rushed To The Hospital For “Major Surgery” Days Before The Block Premiere

The Block star Scott Cam has revealed he has had a major surgery that left him in hospital for close to two weeks.

The Channel 9 star called into Brisbane breakfast radio show B105’s Stav, Abby & Matt to reveal that, instead of preparing for the renovation show’s premiere on August 2, he was in a hospital room.

He called into the show from his hospital bed, where he had been for the last 12 days after having a knee replacement.

“The first five days is not good. Let me tell you. I’m at the back end now, I’m sweet,” he said.

The Channel 9 host said he was up walking right after the procedure to ensure everything had gone smoothly and is now in better spirits.

However, he wasn’t quite off the painkillers needed to help ease the immense pain associated with having such a major surgery.

“I was on the heavy-duty [painkillers] in the early days because knee replacements are pretty big,” he said.

“Yeah, there’s a lot of pain involved. But now I’m at the back end. I’m going home on Sunday, and I’m still incapacitated a little bit with a walking stick.”

What can viewers expect from The Block on Sunday?

The Block will premiere its new season on Sunday, with the show taking place in Victoria’s Mount Eliza.

It will be the first time in the program’s 22 seasons that they’ll have an ocean view.

Scott and Shelley Craft will return as hosts, and the judges will be Marty Fox, Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze.

Previously, contestants have competed in the inner city, on farmland, and even in caravan parks.

But with Mount Eliza sitting on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, it’ll offer rookie builders a different kind of vista.

However, that’s not the only twist the five teams of two will have to account for.

At the beginning of the show, the contestants often stay in a tent or a caravan until the property is safe to live in.

But for the first time ever, the contestants will all be living together under one roof.

“We’re in a shared house here,” said one stunned participant.

Scott reacts to the show’s ‘missteps’

It’ll likely be a recipe for drama, with past seasons showing explosive arguments because contestants were simply sharing a job site — let alone the same kitchen.

But Scott addressed his feelings about the drama that had unfolded on the job site in previous seasons.

“We had a couple of missteps for a couple of years. I feel that you know probably our casting was a bit off, and you know we just weren’t heading in the [right] direction,” he said on B105.

Scott said he had some sit-downs and serious conversations with production, bringing the casting back to “grassroots”.

“To people that work hard, that people that you know put their maximum effort in, and that’s where we were lacking,” he told Stav, Abby & Matt.

“We’re were choosing people that were too young, I feel, and you know we didn’t have —they didn’t have the effort.”

He said the response to that change last year from viewers was phenomenal, and that while there was organic drama, the priority was now the build.
