Renovating an entire house on national television would be a fairly major life event on its own.

But for The Block’s Lisa, filming came with another enormous surprise after she discovered she was pregnant during the first week of the competition.

As if that was not unexpected enough, the first person Lisa told was not her husband, Rosco.

It was Scott Cam.

Yes, The Block host knew the couple were expecting their second child before the baby’s own father did.

Speaking at a media event ahead of the season, Lisa revealed that she quietly pulled Scott aside to share the news before telling Rosco.

“Lisa wandered over to me and she said, ‘Scotty I’m eating for two’”, Scott said at the event as Lisa and Rosco teased what’s to come for their The Block journey. “I went, ‘What do you mean?’, and she said ‘I’m having a baby’

“I said, ‘Does anybody know?’, and she goes, ‘Just you at the moment!’.”

Scott then jokingly asked “what about Rosco?”, at which point the husband and The Block contestant chimed in to say “I found out after you”!

It was a sweet off-camera moment between the contestant and longtime host, although we suspect Rosco may have a few questions about being beaten to the announcement.

Why did Lisa tell Scott Cam she was pregnant first?

Lisa discovered she was expecting at the beginning of filming, just as she and Rosco were settling into life on one of Australia’s most demanding reality shows.

The competition sees contestants working long days, making high-pressure decisions and completing entire rooms against unforgiving deadlines.

Finding out she was pregnant added another considerable element for Lisa to navigate, particularly while the couple were living away from their family in Perth.

Shelley spoke to the contestant about this challenge, candidly confessing that “there’s never a good time to audition” for The Block and acknowledging that the couple had previously delayed their plans to audition when they had their first son, Lando, and were just about to start building their house in Perth when they got the call to be involved for this year’s season.

“You coped so fantastically well,” the host told the contestant. “The first trimester is exhausting already, but then this [competing in The Block] on top of it!”

Shelley described how production quickly stepped in when they discovered the news, ensuring they had enough measures in place to make sure she was safe, cared for, and healthy.

While Scott is accustomed to contestants pulling him aside with building problems, budget concerns and the occasional neighbourly dispute, a secret pregnancy announcement is slightly outside his usual job description.

Still, after more than two decades hosting The Block, it seems he can now add keeper of baby secrets to his lengthy resume.

Lisa and Rosco are expecting their second child

Lisa and Rosco have been together for nine years and married for four. They already share a two-year-old son, Lando, whom Lisa has become emotional discussing while on the show.

The couple entered the competition knowing they would miss him, but also admitted they were excited to enjoy some rare time together away from their usual parenting routine.

Then Lisa discovered another baby was already on the way.

So much for the parents’ getaway.

Viewers have already begun warming to Lisa and Rosco’s relaxed dynamic, with some describing the Perth couple as refreshingly down-to-earth.

Between renovating a house, preparing to welcome another child and trying to keep a major secret from Rosco, Lisa certainly had more happening during filming than viewers initially realised.

The Block airs Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
