Thanks to the fact the heroic tiling Cursio brothers came with their house, Chantel and Wyatt have more than made up for their “RDO” earlier in the week, streaking ahead with their family bathroom.

“The other teams just need to manage their time and trades better,” Wyatt, who last week didn’t know one end of a hammer from another, says.

Those other teams are in a world of pain, even those for whom managing time and trades is their actual profession.

Courtney and Sev are still stewing about the fact the builders they were promised by Rosco in return for them handing over their waterproofer never eventuated.

“We’re up shit creek. This will be the last time I make a deal with the devil,” Courtney says.

Rosco’s excuse that he didn’t know what he agreed to is less than convincing.

“What happens is I get what I need and then I just blank out,” he says. “I’m a dog in their eyes for sure, but what’s good is everything is recorded and I’ll found out, ‘Oh, I was a dog’.”

When Scott Cam and Shelley Craft show up to inspect the teams’ progress Courtney and Sev haven’t even started tiling, with only a day to go.

“Our egos and professional pride is on the line,” admits commercial building project manager Courtney.

Scott Cam suggests they gather the troops and ask for extended hours to paint, at least. Adam and Jolene aren’t keen on the idea given they feel confident they can finish their room without it.

“You’ve got to be ruthless, there’s $250,000 at stake,” Adam says.

But the minute Jolene leaves site the jellyback votes yes, leaving Jolene fuming.

All the extra painting time the world isn’t going to save Lisa and Rosco though.

They won $20,000 in a quick styling challenge, but that was the extent of their good news.

Their sole tiler assures them he’s a quick worker and will be able to finish their tiling in the five working hours remaining. Rosco takes his word for it, despite Dan’s serious misgivings and advice to tell the tiler to bring in some help.

“I’m probably not forceful enough,” Rosco admits.

And by the end of the episode there’s no probably about it as Dan and site managers Aidan and Gmac inspect the shoddy work the tiler has done on the floor, quite aside from the fact he didn’t put a single tile on a wall.

The fall is too shallow, there’s substantial gaps and tile cuts don’t line up.

“This is bulls**t. It’s a disaster,” Dan says, as he checks on the tiling from the window.

“All because he’s tried to do it on his own and he’s roughed it. How can you win a room when you’ve got quality like that? I don’t think you can.”

In any case, the tiles have to come up, leaving Lisa in tears and the pair with virtually no chance of winning.

Lisa is particularly gutted by feeling they’ve let their building team down, after pushing them to finish their work in time for the tiles to go down.

But Dan’s wrath isn’t reserved just for tilers this week.

He’s been stewing on the fact Tayla is rarely seen lifting a finger to help her dad Rick, who is trying to do all the building work himself.

As he stresses out about finishing their bathroom Tayla is at the beach or mugging for more airtime with her fast-becoming-annoying “I’m just here to provide the laughs” schtick, and Dan’s over it.

“House Five’s team consists of only one person. I’ll let the audience decide who that is,” he says.
