Beloved host Jonathan LaPaglia has scored a new television gig following his axing from Channel 10 show Survivor.
The Love Child actor was “blindsided” by the network’s decision to dump him as the host in favour of ex-contestant David Genat in June 2025 after a ratings dip.
However, it seems that the Cold Case star can’t seem to give up his outdoor survival roots, because his new role puts him smack bang in that world once again.
He’s now the narrator of BINGE and UK Channel 4 show APOCALYPSE, which the Australian streaming service boasts is its most ambitious undertaking to date.
The actor hosted the show for a decade.

What is APOCALYPSE about?
APOCALYPSE is an eight-part series that will see its stars dumped in the middle of an abandoned town that’s become a training ground for urban warfare, and will show how they rebuild their lives when they have only each other to rely on.
Judging by the description alone, it’s very obvious why BINGE wanted the 56-year-old to be part of it.

“I’ve spent years watching people navigate pressure, strategy and uncertainty, but this takes those dynamics into a completely new environment.
“Dropping ordinary people into a post-disaster world where every decision matters creates a fascinating test of resilience, relationships and survival. I can’t wait for audiences to experience the twists, challenges and unexpected moments that unfold.”

The new role won’t involve as much from the Underbelly star, who previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that the “toughest” part of the survivor role was Tribal Council.
“Tribals can go for a couple hours,” he said.
“Keeping track of 24 different stories and trying to extract the right information without blowing up the players’ games is incredibly difficult.
“But when you land on the right question and suddenly the tribal opens up, it’s so fun to sit back and enjoy the show.”
Jonathan, who is commonly known as JLP, hosted Australian Survivor for a decade before he was unceremoniously dumped by 10.
“I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show, but for next season they are ‘going in a different direction’,” he revealed at the time.
“Ratings had dipped a bit recently, and they wanted to do something drastic to shake things up. So for the first time ever, this is not a tribe swap, but a HOST SWAP.”
He said it had been one of the greatest adventures of his career to be part of the show.
Fans were, as expected, devastated by the news that JLP would no longer be part of the show, particularly because it was so clear he loved being the host for anyone who watched.
