The Brutal Truth Behind MAFS 2027: Why Experts Warn The New ‘Extreme’ Cast Will Completely Divide The Nation

The next season of Married At First Sight is expected to air in early February 2027.
The next season of Married At First Sight is set to contain even more explosive and “spicy” viewpoints than the 2026 instalment.

There was no shortage of jaw-dropping comments this year, particularly from one contestant, Tyson Gordon, who wasn’t shy about wanting a “submissive” partner and someone with a low “body count”.

But MAFS expert John Aiken told Yahoo Lifestyle they have more controversy on the way.

“We’ve certainly got some pretty extreme views that I think you’ll see, heavily influenced by TikTok. Look out for that,” he said.

When asked directly if he meant more extreme than Tyson, he said yes.

“They’re always tapping into these zeitgeists that are out there in the dating world,” John added.

“I think every year we get a different flavour.”

Fellow MAFS expert Alessandra Rampolla told Yahoo Lifestyle that “intensity with different flavours” was the perfect way to describe the 2027 season.

It will be interesting to see how viewers react, as they weren’t particularly fond of Tyson’s views getting a national platform.

Why was Tyson so controversial on MAFS?

When he appeared on the show for the first time, he laid out his laundry list of what he didn’t want in a partner:

  • Isn’t “woke”

  • Isn’t “super overweight”

  • Doesn’t have green hair

  • Doesn’t have kids

  • Doesn’t have a high “body count”, which means hasn’t had sex with many people

  • Isn’t a “complete feminist”

  • Doesn’t hate Donald Trump

  • Doesn’t like to party with her girlfriends every weekend

  • Isn’t a “full-blown” atheist

  • Brings “femininity” and is “submissive”

A poll of more than 2,400 Yahoo Lifestyle readers found 46 per cent would stop watching the Channel 9 show because of him and his wife Stephanie.

A separate survey of more than 3,300 viewers found that 77 per cent thought his desire for a “submissive” partner was “concerning”.

Difficult part of filming 2027 MAFS season without Mel Schilling

The experts also shared what it was like filming the new season without Mel Schilling.

The relationship expert and therapist sadly passed away earlier this year after a years-long cancer battle that first started in her colon.

The trio had worked together on the Channel 9 show since season eight, and John told Yahoo Lifestyle it was “very difficult” to continue without Mel.

He and Alessandra were tight-lipped on who her replacement would be.

At the time of Mel’s death, John said he was “heartbroken, devastated and finding it hard to breathe”.

“It was a privilege and an honour to sit beside her on the MAFS couch and watch her shine,” he said earlier this year.

“She was warm, supportive and honest, and she deeply cared about all our participants.”

John added that he, Mel, and Alessandra had “so much fun” behind the scenes on Married At First Sight.
