The Channel 9 Crisis Nobody Saw Coming: Danika Mason Breaks Silence On The Karl And Sarah Disaster That’s Tearing The Network Apart
Today has had a variety of hosts following the sudden exit of both its hosts, including Samantha Armytage, Michael Willesee Jr., and Sylvia Jeffries.
Danika Mason has addressed what’s happening behind-the-scenes following Karl Stefanovic’s permanent exit and Sarah Abo’s maternity leave.
The Channel 9 program has been forced to trial a variety of hosts following the sudden exit of its two main stars within weeks of each other, including Samantha Armytage, Michael Willesee Jr., and Sylvia Jeffries.
The network hasn’t announced who will be permanently in those roles, and the state of flux has been something the team has just had to “get through”, according to Danika.
“Everyone experiences change in their jobs, and we have so many people that can come and fill in [on the show] who are like an extension of the family,” she told TV Week.
“So, once you get through that initial change period, you sort of settle back in.”
She added that you can’t attach emotion to things like a rotation of hosts.
“I can’t control what’s gone on, so you just deal with it, work through it and come out the other side,” she said.
“People look at the media as if it’s something different, but it’s like any other workplace. And everyone helps each other out.”
She said that she doesn’t have big plans for her future and simply enjoys covering massive sporting events such as the State of Origin and the Australian Open for Channel 9.
Danika’s career with Channel 9 began with an internship in 2012, and her passion for sport has made her a household name in a typically male-dominated industry.
She’s nominated for the Bruce McAvaney Award for Most Popular Sports Presenter at the 66th TV Week Logies.
It’s the first time the award has been announced.
Danika will be up against industry stalwarts, such as the award’s namesake Bruce McAvaney, Jelena Dokic, Eddie McGuire, Ricky Pointing and James Bracey.
