MasterChef viewers were concerned after a particularly spicy dish left the judges coughing and gagging.

It’s Heat Week on the Channel 10 cooking show, and the final seven contestants were given a mystery box filled with spicy ingredients such as Szechuan peppercorn and Marion’s Chilli Oil.

However, the judges got a lot more than they bargained for when Vinnie Gibaldi presented his pumpkin gnocchi.

It came with Szechuan pepper sauce, Gochujang lardons and chilli oil, and chilli Thai basil oil.

Moments after digging in, judge Sofia Levin was left coughing as the bold heat hit her.

Jean-Christophe Novelli and Andy Allen, who is known for his struggles with spicy food, weren’t too far behind her.

“Are you trying to kill us?” Jean-Christophe demanded to know.

He added that his mouth felt like it was “burning” as a result of the dish.

Judges Sofia Levin, Andy Allen and Jean-Christophe Novelli all struggled with the dish Vinnie prepared.

Meanwhile, Andy said he “used to like” Vinnie before trying this dish, leading the 25-year-old nurse to laugh.

Sofia said that, even though the dish “hurt” to eat, it was “kind of addictive”.

Guest judge Marion Grasby and Poh Ling Yeow were both big fans of the heat.

Viewers concerned over Heat Week

Scenes of the judges contorting and coughing over the spice left viewers in a mix of concern and humour.

“Someone call 000 for Andy. He’s going to pass out,” one wrote on social media.

“Andy is fighting for his life,” another added.

“First attempted murder of the judges this season,” a third joked.

People even called for Andy to have a break from tasting additional dishes to let his mouth settle after the hot meal.

Others questioned how the judges would even be able to assess every dish if their tongues were constantly reeling from the heat.
