Fans grieving the loss of Sam Neill are showing their love for the actor in a sweet way.

The New Zealand actor died suddenly last week at the age of 78 from pneumonia.

The Jurassic Park star’s representative said fans could donate to “one of the causes he cared about most deeply” if they wished.

But they’ve been sending their money elsewhere.

Sam was an avid winemaker and opened the Two Paddocks vineyard in 1993, with the label making pinot noir, rosé and Riesling in Central Otago, New Zealand.

Liquorland said the Two Paddocks pinot noir had rocketed up the charts from the 423rd best-seller to the fifth, according to The Guardian, which is a wild 1,828 per cent increase.

Two Paddocks has two pinot noir offerings, retailing for $49 and $73, respectively.

Jacqui Murphy, the general manager of Sam’s winery, said the actor would have been touched, as he believed the sign of living well was sitting around a table with the people you loved and a great wine.

“I’m sure he would regret the reason they needed to do this, but he talked about wine being about conviviality, connecting people,” she told The Guardian.

“So I think he would think it was very apt, and he’d be even more excited that they were, of course, drinking his Two Paddocks.”

Many have said they planned to have a glass of his wine in the coming days while watching one of Sam’s movies.

Sam Neill’s cancer battle

Sam’s death was announced last week, and it came as a shock to Hollywood and his adoring fans.

He was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma four years ago, and first noticed symptoms of it while promoting Jurassic World Dominion.

The disease is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

“I’ve been living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years, and I was on chemotherapy and the pretty miserable business, but it was keeping me alive,” he told 7News.

“Then the chemo stopped working. I was at a loss, and it looked like I was on the way out, which wasn’t ideal, obviously.”

But in April, he declared the cancer had been cleared from his body after undergoing CAR T-cell therapy.

It’s a type of immunotherapy that trains a person’s T cells to recognise and destroy cancer cells.

Sam Neill revealed to be ‘pretty sick’ just before his death

Despite ridding his body of cancer, Sam’s ex-partner, Laura Tingle, said the actor had been “pretty sick” in the weeks before he passed.

“He’d been fighting various forms of cancer for at least the last five years intensively. And that takes a toll on anybody’s body,” she told radio host Hamish MacDonald.

“He’d had a lot of chemo and a lot of immunotherapy and, thankfully, it had finally cleared him of the blood cancer that he’d had, but it left him pretty compromised in terms of his immune system,” she said.

“I think his poor body sort of got a bit exhausted, as makes sense.

“But, I think it was just a bit too much to recover from one more time.”
