“It Just Went Off!” Samantha Armytage’s HUMILIATING Live TV Fail During Her Today Show Return Will Leave You Cringing!

The 49-year-old, who filled in for former host Sarah Abo during the Christmas break, returned to breakfast television on Monday morning to host Channel Nine’s flagship alongside Allison Langdon’s husband Michael Willesee Jr.

However, the former Sunrise host was left red-faced during her big return when her phone alarm rang during the broadcast.

The breakfast program opened with a number of news bulletins before cutting back to Armytage and Willesee at the Today desk, where the Golden Bachelor host could be seen frantically grasping her phone.

“Good morning! Happy Monday. It’s all happening – my alarm just went off on my phone because this is the time I normally get up,” Armytage shared, finding the humour in the awkward gaffe.

Her co-host joked back: “Her alarm, right on the start time of the show. Just to remind Sam that she had to be on the show this morning.”

The TV personality has been building anticipation for her appearance on the show this week, begging her social media followers to tune into her first day.

“Tomorrow morning, I’m gonna be sliding into that Today show co-hosting chair for a fill-in,” she began the clip, which she shared on Instagram on Sunday.

“I hope, if you can, you might turn your telly on and have a look, because the thing about, doing, well, listen, the kookaburras are laughing at my jokes.

“The thing about doing this thing, if no-one’s watching, it really is a complete waste of makeup… so I hope we see you in the morning.”

Armytage and Willesee are currently standing in for former hosts Abo, who is currently on maternity leave and welcomed her first child last week, and Karl Stefanovic, who was axed after his controversial sit-down with Tommy Robinson on his eponymous podcast.

However, the network is yet to announce a long-term replacement for the duo, and is said to be looking to the radio waves for potential talent.

Television sources say Nova’s Michael “Wippa” Wipfli has been floated internally as a potential long-term successor to Stefanovic, with his live broadcasting experience, humour and mainstream appeal shaping him up to be an attractive option.

However,  his commitments to Nova’s Sydney breakfast program meant conversations could not progress.

“Wippa is exactly the sort of personality television executives are looking for,” one industry source told News24.com.au.

“But Nova has invested heavily in Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie and losing him would create a major hole in one of its most important shows.”
