Insiders have alleged Kyle Sandilands’ exit from the Australian Idol judging panel may not have been on his own terms, as he claimed.
Kyle Sandilands’ shock decision to step down from his judging role on Australian Idol last week has sparked controversy, with industry insiders claiming the decision wasn’t in his hands as he implied.
Last week, The Sydney Morning Herald confirmed that the radio shock jock had walked away from the Aussie reality series due to activist group the Mad F***ing Witches’ multiple attacks on potential advertisers.
The 55-year-old told the publication that, due to the campaign wreaking behind the scenes and causing “a problem” for Channel Seven’s sales team, he was quitting the program “for the good of the brand to continue”.

Now, Daily Telegraph has cast doubt on Sandilands’ statement, with anonymous insiders claiming it was the network who pulled the plug on the agreement, not Sandilands.
According to the publication, Seven’s head of unscripted content Majella Hay wanted Sandilands to remain on the judging panel, but executives weren’t on the same page.
“Majella wanted him but it was knocked on the head by the higher ups,” the well-placed source said.
The insider’s claim that Hay was in Sandilands’ corner was backed by the statement she released in the wake of his exit announcement.
“Kyle is a one-off individual talent. I won’t say we are looking for a replacement, because no one can replace Kyle,” she said.
“But we are now looking for a new judge who brings their own unique energy to Australian Idol.”
Now, Seven is no doubt facing a tough road ahead, with audition roadshows scheduled to begin in October and an empty judge seat to fill in two months.
Furthermore, the insider claims that Sandilands was a major asset to the Seven show, particularly after his ARN axing, and his exit no doubt will be felt by the program.

“He was amazing when he came back. He was standing on desks, doing selfies down with the crowd,” the insider shared with Daily Telegraph.
They added that Seven and production company Eureka felt that season 11, which aired its finale in April, was his “best ever”.
As for who could fill the radio shock jock’s shoes on Australian Idol alongside judges Marcia Hines and Amy Shark, the source says it will be difficult to find a suitable replacement with “enough controversy” to keep the talent show program engaging.
“If they bring in Guy Sebastian or something, the panel will be too nice,” they claimed.
On Friday, it was reported that Sandilands had quit Australian Idol in order to protect the Channel Seven show from an oncoming activist campaign.
This isn’t the first time Sandilands’ sponsors have been targeted by Mad F***ing Witches, with the feminist group putting pressure on The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s advertisers to pull spending prior to it getting the axe in March.
