“Makes Me So Angry!” The Block Finally Addresses the SHOCKING Issue That Has Fans Boycotting the 2026 Season!
Furious viewers expressed their frustration and disappointment after watching the show.
The Block has copped a massive amount of backlash for an unexpected reason and it’s so bad that viewers are boycotting the 2026 season.
The newest instalment of the popular Channel Nine renovation show launched on August 2, and viewers were quick to call out the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create songs and jingles for different scenes.
But The Block‘s post-production executive producer, David Barbour, defended the move in a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, saying the show has “always embraced new ways of telling stories” and AI has become “another creative tool in our storytelling toolkit”.

“As with any creative evolution, some viewers will love it immediately, others may be surprised by it, and that’s completely understandable,” he said.
“We’ve been really excited to experiment with these new technologies, and we’ll continue using whatever creative tools help us tell the best and most entertaining version of the story.
“The music follows the same philosophy.
“Alongside our traditional music library, we’ve incorporated AI-generated music where it best serves the story. It allows us to create highly specific musical moments that perfectly complement the tone, humour and personality of a scene.”
What have fans said about the use of AI music?
The show has also used AI to create interesting animations, such as turning contestants into animals.
But viewers said on social media that the AI music was “the last straw”.
“The AI has put me off completely, I’m out,” one wrote.
“This show has absolutely gone to the dogs. I’m so disappointed,” another said.
“It’s horrific. It makes me so angry,” a third wrote.
Others complained that the show is “very noisy” with some viewers claiming they’ve had to mute the television at times.
The Block believes AI keeps the show ‘fresh’
After 22 seasons, The Block is still a domineering force on Aussie TVs.
More than 2.2 million people tuned in for the first episode, and even as recently as this week, Channel 9 boasted that it’s still the number one entertainment show in the country.
David told Yahoo Lifestyle that the show has been using tools that “surprise people, make them smile and keep the storytelling feeling fresh”.
“The heart of The Block remains exactly the same: great contestants, genuine emotion, incredible renovations and plenty of laughs,” David said.
“AI simply gives us more creative options to amplify those moments in entertaining and unexpected ways.
“Whether it’s the playful animations, talking animals or original music, AI gives our post-production team new ways to bring humour, personality and energy to moments that might previously have been difficult to communicate in an entertaining way.
“It’s not replacing the storytelling, it’s enhancing it.”
