SHOCKING Twist: The Block Contestants Hit With ‘Never Happened Before’ Auction Rule That Changes EVERYTHING – You’ll Be HOOKED!
This year, the Channel 9 renovation show takes place in Mount Eliza, in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
The Block will face a major twist when it comes to the auction this season, thanks to a change in Victorian law.
The state government will require people selling their homes to advertise an exact reserve price at least seven days in advance.
The law will come into effect on October 1, and is being introduced so people can see how much a property is really worth.

This year, the Channel 9 renovation show takes place in Mount Eliza, in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
A date for the auctions has not been announced; it typically takes place in the first two weeks of November.
This means the show will be impacted by the change.
Up until now, people hoping to nab a home built by The Block contestants haven’t known the reserve price.
It’s only revealed to viewers at home after the auction, so they can see just how much the contestants are taking home.
Each contestant will take home whatever profit they make above the reserve price, with the winning duo pocketing an additional $100,000.
Showrunner responds to major The Block change
The show’s executive producer, Julian Cress, said he was nervous about how that would impact the 2026 season.
“The real estate market is pretty wobbly at the moment and changing rapidly, and the Victorian government seems intent on introducing legislation shortly that will make our contestants reveal their reserve prices a week out from the auction,” he told TV Tonight.

In Victoria, people will have to advertise their reserve price a full seven days before auction. The Block will be impacted by this.

“It’s never happened. I mean, nobody in Australia has ever revealed their reserve price a week ahead of their auction.
“If you were selling your house, would you publish your reserve price a week before your auction publicly?”
He claimed it would be a “big twist” and a “big challenge” to see whether any of the couples would turn a profit as a result.
However, he said that it would be one of the most “compelling” auctions in the show’s history as a result.
